The ceremony for welcoming and introducing the bachelor students of the Department of Petroleum at Amirkabir University of Technology was held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 with the support of Pasargad Energy Development Company (PEDC).
Referring to Parsagad Energy Development Company as a successful Iranian holding in energy sector, Mohammad Sharifi, the head of the Department of Petroleum at Amirkabir University of Technology, said the company has always supported scientific and knowledge-based activities.
It is an honor that academic community of the petroleum industry has been able to move in line with the knowledge required in the industry, take the lead in different academic levels, and achieve an appropriate position in various fields nationally and internationally, he noted.
Petroleum engineering has always been among the strategic and important fields in Iran, he said, adding, “currently, many managers and experts involved in energy area are the graduates of the petroleum engineering, and you will also be the future value-creators in the industry.”
Moreover, speaking at the ceremony, Seyed Hossein Ghavami, director of communications and brand development at Pasargad Energy Development Company, said the definition of “literacy” has been changed a lot over years, adding, “it is defined as an ability to change life,” so I hope that you, dear students, who could be admitted to a university that many young people dream of, will be able to improve your own lives and your compatriots’ and build a better Iran.
Referring to the oil industry as a strategic industry, he said many companies involved in oil industry were evaluated and a limited number of them were introduced as exploration and production (E&P) firms which are considered by the Ministry of Petroleum and National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) as companies that enjoy value chain in oil industry and are capable of implementing projects, from exploration to production.
Following the evaluation, 17 companies were identified as exploration and production companies and classified into three ranks, based on which, Pasargad Energy Development Company was ranked first and was among seven top companies in Iran and can implement development projects of oil and gas fields with maximum worth of 12 billion dollars, Ghavami said.
Oil industry is divided into upstream and downstream sectors, he said, adding, one of the pride of the country’s engineering ability is the effective presence of Pasargad Energy Development Company in Sepehr and Jofeir oilfields in which the company could successfully carry out all projects from investment and reservoir studies to drilling and development of the field with Iranian experts and having the largest amount of investment, the largest oil production and the greatest use of locally made equipment, and hope to hear good news soon.
A distinctive feature of Pasargad Energy Development Company is that in addition to the oil and gas industry, it has been able to carry out remarkable operations in the areas of renewable energy, electricity and utility by relying on the private sector. The company accounts for five percent of Iran’s power generation and opening of Damghan solar power plant and Urmia combined cycle power plant were a part of its activities, he said.
Competency lies in enjoying knowledge, skill, ability and ethics, he said, emphasizing, “if people or organizations can strengthen these characteristics, they will definitely achieve amazing success and achievements. The CEO of Pasargad Energy Development Company stressed on the need to strengthen the relation between universities and the industry, Ghavami noted, saying, “Many projects in this industry are being planned and will be announced in the near future. We hope to have professional and value-creating colleagues from this group of students in Pasargad Energy Development Company, and strive towards the increasing improvement of our country.
