Iranian Solar Power Plant Sets New National Records

DAMGHAN, Iran (PEDC) - A solar power plant in Damghan, Iran, has set new national records for monthly and daily energy production, according to its operator.

The Taban Pasargad Damghan power plant produced 2,440 megawatts in May, breaking the previous record of 2,290 megawatts held by a 10-megawatt solar power plant equipped with a sun-tracking system in Yazd province, Yaser Mirzaei, CEO of Taban Energy Pasargad Development Company, said in a statement.

The plant also generated more than 100 megawatts on May 5, setting a new record for daily energy production by a solar power plant in Iran. The previous record was 90 megawatts by the same plant in Yazd.

Mirzaei said the new records were achieved despite the fact that the solar radiation in Yazd province was about 5 percent higher than in Semnan province, where the Taban Pasargad Damghan power plant is located.

The power plant consists of two phases: the first phase has a capacity of two megawatts with fixed structures and single-sided panels, and the second phase has a capacity of eight megawatts with a sun-tracking system and bifacial panels.

Mirzaei said the second phase of the plant was the first bifacial solar power plant with a sun-tracking system and domestic design in Iran, which increased its energy production by about 50 percent compared to similar solar power plants with fixed structures.
