Iran adds 120 MW power capacity through Pasargad Energy’s new solar plants

Iran has added 120 megawatts (MW) of capacity to its power grid ahead of fall as Pasargad Energy Development Company (PEDC) launched five solar power plants in Tehran and Hamedan provinces.

Five solar power plants, with a total 120 megawatts of capacity, came online a few days ago during ceremonies attended by the governors of Tehran and Hamedan provinces and several local officials, the PEDC’s Public Relations Office reported.

The new power plants include 6-MW Varamin‑2, 12-MW Varamin‑1, 12-MW Malard, 70-MW Hamedan and 20-MW Shahr‑e Rey‑3, bringing their combined output to 120 MW.

The added capacity is part of a broader 300‑MW solar projects already built and came online by Pasargad Energy Development Company. Some of the plants have already been formally inaugurated, while others are prepared to open.

The Varamin‑2 solar power plant, with 6 megawatts of capacity, set a remarkable construction speed record, completed and synchronized to the grid in just 10 days.

The 72‑MW Esfarayen solar plant was earlier inaugurated in the presence of Iran’s Energy Minister, and the 6‑MW Shahr‑e Rey‑2 power plant opened with the participation of Iran’s Vice President. Both projects were also part of Pasargad Energy Development Company’s 300‑MW renewable energy program.
