The 72 MW Esfarayen Solar Power Plant, part of 300 MW of newly completed solar capacity developed by Pasargad Energy Group, has officially commenced operations.
The 72 MW Esfarayen Solar Power Plant was officially inaugurated this morning in the presence of Iran’s Minister of Energy, Abbas Aliabadi.
The facility, which is expected to play an important role in strengthening the stability of the local electricity grid, particularly during peak summer demand, forms part of the 300 MW of new solar power capacity developed and made ready for operation by Pasargad Energy Group.
The Group’s newly completed 300 MW solar portfolio is located across the provinces of North Khorasan, Semnan, Hamedan, Qazvin, and Tehran. The commissioning of the Esfarayen project marks the launch of the largest solar power plant in North Khorasan Province.
Given the anticipated natural gas supply imbalance and shortages during the coming winter, the 72 MW Esfarayen Solar Power Plant is also expected to contribute significantly to meeting the region’s energy needs during the colder months.
Built on 121 hectares of land, the power plant has an estimated annual electricity generation capacity of 145,000 MWh.
The project is expected to reduce annual natural gas consumption by approximately 39 million cubic meters, while also saving around 32,000 cubic meters of water per year.
In addition to strengthening regional energy supply, the Esfarayen Solar Power Plant will deliver significant environmental benefits. Its operation is expected to prevent approximately 101,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually, equivalent to the emissions generated by around 41,000 vehicles.
The commissioning of the Esfarayen Solar Power Plant represents another major step in Pasargad Energy Group’s continued expansion of renewable energy capacity and its contribution to the development of a more sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure in Iran.
