    Solar Power Plant Technology

    Pasargad Energy Development Company (PEDC) is one of the largest active companies in the country's energy sector, spanning the entire value chain of energy, oil and gas, electricity, utilities, renewable energy, trade, and high-risk investments. The company has invested over $13 billion in various sectors of the energy industry in the country. Its distinguishing and unique feature is its effective and continuous activity across the entire energy value chain. As the largest private company, with a total capacity of 3,000 MW from six thermal and renewable power plants, it holds 4% of the country's electricity market share.

     In line with its unwavering commitment to enhancing clean and sustainable energy production in the country, PEDC has started new investments in this field. As part of its strategic goals to become a key player in renewable energy in Iran, it is constructing 27 solar power plants with a total capacity of over 1,500 MW and an investment of more than 800 million euros.


    PEDC has launched the first solar power plant with bifacial panels, utilizing cutting-edge global technologies, in the city of Damghan through its subsidiary, Taban Energy Company (a subsidiary of Pasargad Energy Development Group). By developing the necessary technologies to enhance efficiency, such as the solar tracking system, backtracking system based on minimal shading factors, and panel cleaning robots, the plant has been able to increase energy production by over 40% annually compared to similar power plants with fixed structures. This plant is recognized as the record holder for the highest daily and monthly energy production among solar power plants in the country. The solar tracking system and bifacial panels of the Tabaan Pasargad Power Plant are not only the most up-to-date methods for constructing solar power plants internationally but also have a significant impact on improving the plant's economic efficiency.
    Furthermore, the group considers the use of advanced and up-to-date global technologies as a fundamental principle in all its ongoing and future projects.

    Technologies Used in Solar Power Plants


    Solar Tracking System: 

    The solar tracking system is a domestically developed technology designed to maximize the power output of solar plants. Besides increasing the plant's power production, it also plays a critical role in enhancing the safety of solar panels and plant structures against natural forces such as storms and high winds. This system is designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 144 kilometers per hour. Achieving this goal requires great attention to technical details during the design and construction of the system, combining various engineering disciplines such as hardware engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and polymer engineering.

    Backtracking System:

    The bifacial tracking system at the Damghan solar plant is one of the most advanced solar energy production technologies in the country. Utilizing bifacial technology and solar tracking capabilities, this system achieves significantly higher efficiency compared to fixed-structure plants. In July 2024, the daily production of this system was 70% higher than similar plants with fixed capacity. One of the key factors contributing to its superior performance is the system's design based on a minimum Shading Factor, which considerably increases energy production. This system not only improves energy generation but also plays a vital role in optimizing the utilization of solar resources.

    Fully Automated Solar Panel Cleaning Robot: 

    The fully automated solar panel cleaning robot is an advanced technology designed to clean and maintain solar panels without human intervention. Using smart sensors and precise programming, the robot automatically moves along rails and employs advanced washing systems to remove dust and surface contaminants from the panels. This technology enhances energy production efficiency and reduces maintenance costs, as the cleanliness of the panels directly impacts their performance and efficiency. Additionally, the use of the cleaning robot helps ensure worker safety by minimizing the need for manual cleaning and working at heights. The design and construction of this fully automated robot, developed domestically, enables both dry and wet cleaning of panels. Beyond significant cost savings in panel cleaning, it also contributes to water conservation by saving over 200 cubic meters of water annually.
