TEHRAN (PEDC) - The Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-based Economy of Iran and Pasargad Energy Development Company signed a $200 million cooperation agreement to develop a knowledge-based economy in the upstream value chains of oil.

The agreement was signed at the Tehran International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition in the presence of Dr. Hassan Khojasteh Mehr, CEO of National Iranian Oil Company, and Dr. Dehghani Firoozabadi, Vice President for Science and Technology.

Dr. Mashayekh, Deputy for Knowledge-based Economy Development of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, said after signing the agreement that the agreements that were signed today were targeted and with specific boundaries, numbers, and figures and that a working group would be formed for each issue to turn the agreements into contracts.

Dehghani Firoozabadi said that the approach of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology was to define the market, study, and research before starting the work of the knowledge-based sector in any field so that when the product was achieved, it would not look for a market.

He said that two-thirds of the activities of the Vice Presidency were dedicated to market-oriented programs and market supply, and said: "If we can create a guaranteed purchase and provide a capable company, we will have a capital supply about the high added value."

Dr. Khojasteh Mehr, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, also said in his speech at the ceremony that they were taking steps in a path that would turn the important issues and challenges of the oil industry into technological issues.

He said that today they witnessed an important event, and said: "The Vice Presidency for Science and Technology has provided a lot of help in making knowledge-based production and we have had good cooperation with the Vice Presidency in recent years."

He said that this year's exhibition slogan was also "technological production, optimal consumption," and said: "The agreements that were signed today are like contracts and this means that we have done technical and economic studies on these agreements. The more domestic production flourishes and the maximum use of knowledge-based companies is made, the more production will grow and production growth will increase income, which will have a significant impact on curbing inflation."
