The “Shahr-e Rey 2” solar power plant was inaugurated today, January 7, with the presence of Mohammad Jafar Ghaem-Panah, Executive Deputy of the President, officials from Tehran Governorate, the Ministry of Energy, SATBA, and board members of Pasargad Energy Group.

Ghaem-Panah emphasized that developing renewable power plants is a government strategy to tackle the country’s electricity deficit and reduce blackouts. “This path is being actively pursued with private sector participation and support from executive agencies,” he said.

The 6-megawatt plant has been connected to the national grid for several months and is now fully operational, marking a significant step in ensuring stable electricity supply.

Alireza Sadegh-Abadi, CEO of Pasargad Energy Group, highlighted that the plant was completed within two months from land delivery, and other projects take between 2 to 6 months depending on scale. He added that the group is responsible for 1,500 megawatts of solar power projects nationwide. Challenges include connecting plants to substations and transmission lines, as well as local disputes, which require coordination with authorities.

Sadegh-Abadi noted the importance of renewable energy for Iran, pointing out that solar plants consume no gas, use minimal water, and produce no emissions, helping to reduce electricity, fuel, and water deficits.

Hamidreza Azimi, Deputy of SATBA, said that 200 megawatts of solar projects were planned in collaboration with Pasargad Energy Group, with 36 megawatts already operational. Today’s inauguration adds 6 megawatts to this capacity.

He expressed hope that the full 200 megawatts will be operational by year-end, and under current plans, Iran’s renewable energy capacity will reach 5,000 megawatts by February and 11,000 megawatts next year.
