Pasargad Energy Development Company (PEDC) unveiled the first segment of the second phase of its Well, Reservoir, and Facility Management (WRFM) on Thursday.
The unveiling ceremony was held at the company’s booth on the first day of Tehran International Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical Exhibition, also known as Iran Oil Show 2025, with Iran’s Vice-President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, Hossein Afshin, in attendance.
The first phase of Pasargad Energy’s WRFM was launched on December 24, 2024, as a center based on business intelligence, aiming to enable online monitoring and precise decision-making in oil industry. Speaking at the ceremony, Afshin urged the need to shift from business intelligence to artificial intelligence.
To this end, Pasargad Energy, a leading upstream oil and gas company, initiated digital transformation of the center in a bid to revolutionize Iran’s oil sector and align it with global leading companies.
The company has also undertaken intensive efforts to develop AI-based systems in three critical areas of “production forecasting,” “drilling rate estimation,” and the “upstream AI assistant” and unveiled them at Iran Oil Show with the presence of vice-president for science, technology, and the knowledge-based economy.
The first phase enabled online monitoring of daily field operations (production, drilling, etc.), online monitoring and management, advanced statistical and engineering analytics, and optimized decision-making process for field operations.
The second phase will focus on full-scale digitalization and intelligent automation of production management, drilling oversight, and well navigation systems. In the first segment of the second phase, the project has successfully developed technological infrastructure, installed and deployed advanced equipment in production and drilling, while developing AI-powered systems in three key areas of “smart well production forecasting,” “intelligent prediction of drilling rate of penetration (ROP),” and “upstream AI assistant.”
It is worth noting that the second segment of the second phase is currently under development to complete other essential modules in production, drilling, well navigation, HSE, etc.
The project, in collaboration with Sharif University of Technology and knowledge-based companies in Sharif Science and Technology Park, is expected to be completed by yearend.
