The Eighth Conference on Organizational Culture and the Eighth Management Social Responsibility Award (MSR Award) were held on January 30-31, 2024 by Iran Management Association (IMA) in collaboration with Khatam University.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors at IMA, Majid Ghasemi, highlighted and described different aspects of sustainability culture in organizations, stating, “Sustainability culture consists of two concepts of sustainability and culture. Sustainability includes a full range of initiatives designed to improve long term values of an organization, stakeholders, society, and the environment while the organizational culture directly derives from an organization’s shared values.”
Addressing the performance indicators of Pasargad Energy Development Company from sustainability perspectives, he said, “It is the first time that an Iranian company has developed two complex oilfields of Sepehr and Jufair at lower costs compared to those carried out by international firms. The projects aimed to increase Iran’s oil output.”
“The company also supplies over four percent of the power needs of the country. Moreover, the water shortage in Qeshm Island has been supplied by Pasargad Qeshm Refinery,” he said, adding, Pasargad Energy Development Company constructed an advanced solar power plant in Damghan and has recently signed an agreement to construct 1500 megawatts capacity of a 4500-megawatt solar power plant.
“Such power plants play a significant role in environmental protection. Above all, these are manifestations of sustainability culture and responsible approach to the society,” h noted.
Meanwhile, the secretary of the MSR Award, Azar Saemian, referred to the remarkable improvement made by the PEDC in social responsibility area, adding that social responsibility not only is a humanitarian practice, but also needs economic and infrastructure measures. The PEDC took distinctive actions in this regard last year.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Pasargad Energy Development Company, Alireza Sadeghabadi, highlighted his company’s activity in social responsibility and sustainability areas as well as its projects in Qeshm Island, stating, “The most well-equipped school was built in Qeshm Island within less than six months which opened in September 2022 and over 500 students study in this school in two shifts.”
Although the company was able to sell fresh water produced in Pasargad Qeshm Power Plant to the ships loading at Pasargad Qeshm Terminal, the members of PEDC’s board of directors decided to supply water to the residents of nearby villages when they realized that they rarely have access to piped drinking water,” he said, adding, “Currently, we supply 5,000 cubic meters of water needed in villages per day.”
He pointed to the construction of Pasargad Hoveizeh Art School near Sepehr and Jufair oilfields in a short period of time as well as building Dar ul-Funun School in Ardebil, and said, “Funded by Bank Pasargad, the PEDC constructed the largest school in Iran, similar to Dar ul-Funun, which was built by Amir Kabir, for male and female students. The company noticed the need to such a school last year when it opened the 1500-megawatt combined cycle power plant in Orumieh, northwestern Iran.”
Furthermore, Communications and Brand Development Manager at Pasargad Energy Development Company, Seyed Hossein Ghavami, referred to the revisions made to the company’s organizational strategies, stating that sustainability has turned into a culture in our company.
